PATIENCE by Lisa Valdez
Releases April 6, 2010
A WOMAN CALLED PATIENCE. A DESIRE THAT WOULD PUT HER NAME—AND HER LOVE—TO THE TEST.
Known for her exceptional beauty, Patience Emmalina Dare has been pursued by admirers ever since coming of age. But suitor after suitor fails to inspire her love – or her desire. Certain she will never find a man who touches her deeply, she decides to forgo marriage in favor of pursuing her music. But just when Patience thinks she has her life well in hand, a passionate kiss with her enigmatic brother-in-law awakens a powerful need in her. How will she reconcile her desire for him and her desire for a life that's her own – and what will she do when he shows her a deep and hidden part of herself that she never knew existed?
When the secret of his illegitimate birth pushes Matthew Morgan Hawkmore from his place in society, the darkly handsome half-brother of the Earl of Langley plots his resurrection and his revenge. Betrayed and abandoned by the women he believed loved him, he swears to never again be controlled by love. But despite his vow, he is unable to resist the beautiful Patience, whose strength and self-reliance hide a need that he is perfectly suited to fulfill. Can he have her without loving her? What will he give up to keep her? And will her passionate surrender be the one thing that can stop him from making a tragic mistake that could destroy them both…

After 5 years waiting for this book and Valdez not delivering, this better be perfect read.
Ha! No kidding. My expectations are sky high.
I heard the news today too and I'm psyched so I'm keeping my fingers crossed it is going to be a ab-fab read :)
I wonder what she wrote in the dedication that everyone must read?
Also, I am surprised Berkley didn't let her go. Passion was a fun read and all but it is more purple prose fluff if anything.
Me too Leontine!
KB, I bet she dedicates it to "patience" or something. Probably thanking all the readers that stuck by her and so forth. That's what I'm expecting anyway.
I think Berkley has been in a tight spot with this author. Everyone has been clamoring to read the sequel so even if it sucks, I think it'll still create big numbers initially because of all the built up hype. Plus they would have had to deal with tons of reader hate mail if they decided to unplug the project. I think utlimately their decision was fan based.
:) VFG
OH-MY-GAWD, LOL! I remember the whole "deep penetration" conversation, lol!!!
I can't wait for this one. I must admit, I didn't think it would ever come out.
As for expectations...you know, it's my understanding Valdez pretty much had the book written when she decided not to continue. It didn't take five years to write, it took five years for Ms. Valdez to decide to have it published. With that said, I'm not expected any more or any less than I got from Passion--which, IMO was a great read. I have faith she's gonna pull this one off ;)
BTW, another Nathan cover...prrr... :D
Barbara, the fact that you can recognize Nathan from the nose down is disturbing! LOL!!!
Oh gawd, and how can you have forgotten our deep penetration convo? That was hilarious!! I should go back and read all the comments again.
Awe man, just a few months and it'll be more Matthew love. *wink*
HUGS, VFG
Listen, okay, I know my Nathan ;)
Oh, I that Jess Granger sided with you on the whole Matt Damon bit. Sigh...I'm still sticking to Leo. Maybe it's wishful thinking?
I don't know, to each their own on the Matt vs. Leo thing. Everyone has different impressions. It's what makes us human.
Does the hubby know that you KNOW Nathan??? *wink*
LOL! Yeah, he knows ALL about my love for Nathan ;)
Thanks for the head's up on this release. I'm looking forward to it. I enjoyed Passion, despite the deep penetration issue. I 'work' in that general field of anatomy, and well um..yeah, like I said, I'm not convinced! ;)
But am really looking forward to it.
The writer in me does question if my publishers would have stuck by me or the book after five years....they tend to get twitchy if you're a week late turning in the manuscript! :0
We have waited so long, I can't wait to read Matt's story! Yay!
I haven't read this series but I know what it's like to wait for an anticipated book. I don't know I've waiting five years though. Happy for you!
Really Charlotte?? Not a believer in "deep penetration"?? LOL! The fantasy works juuuuust fine for me. *wink*
Yeah, I think this release has a lot to do with reader demand like I mentioned to KB. I think the overall hype is going to generate sales and that might be a part of the reason as to why Berkley stuck with Valdez.
Hugs, VFG
Me too Marissa!! I can't wait for Matt! And the hint of the BDSM subplot to come sounds super juicy. I hope she didn't change that. *fingers crossed*
;) VFG
Hey Donna!
Five years is crazy to wait for a book but this author is worth it. I love her style. Now I only have to make through six more months. Whew!
Hugs, VFG
Yeah, not a huge believer of it, or knocking on a cervix, but hey, what I do know... :) IN that, I had a devil of a time separating my medical background from my reader mind! But it really was a stunning debut!
Yeah, I get that. If I read something that entailed a topic that I knew a lot of and the book proved to be unrealistic in that realm, then yeah I totally understand the disconnect.
You know, PASSION was what opened my eyes to erotic historical romance. Once you EHR, you never go back!!
Yeah! I'm so glad it's finally going to be released! Thanks for the heads up!
You're welcome, Tricia!
